Control of industrial buildings and structures

Production structures are the construction facilities used for equipping producing units and maintaining regulated conditions for the use of production lines. Each such building has its own service life calculated at the design stage. The condition of such buildings must be monitored, including through automated monitoring structures.

Industrial buildings and structures requiring control and monitoring

Industrial structures represent a wide class of all types of facilities in every sense, which includes both minimalistic single-span workshops and multi-span continuous development complexes. They are as follows:

  • production;
  • auxiliary;
  • administrative;
  • household;
  • warehouse;
  • transportation;
  • electric power;

However, there are other classification schemes for industrial structures and buildings that require widespread control. They can be divided, for example, by floors into single-storeyed, two-storeyed and multi-storeyed, respectively.

Features of monitoring for structures of industrial construction facilities

Organizing systematic and correct control of industrial facilities is not the good will of the owners, but a direct obligation. It is enshrined both in the Civil Code of the Russian Federation and in the regulations SP 68.13330.2017, GOST 31937-2011 as well as POT RO 14000-04-98.

According to current Russian legislation, automated monitoring systems must be implemented at the following buildings:

  • over 100 meters high;
  • equipped with a substructure depth of more than 15 m;
  • with the spans from 100 m;
  • equipped with the cantilevered beams over 20 m.

Modern hardware and software environments make it possible to obtain valuable data on the technical condition of facilities. Based on such information, experts create forecasts about the possible performance of buildings during operation. The same information is used to simulate critical situations and the ways to quickly stop their main consequences.

Control and measurement instrumentation

Monitoring for industrial construction facilities is organized using a whole series of fundamentally different control and measuring instruments. Solutions that have already proven their effectiveness, such as sensors, enjoy popularity:

  • pressure;
  • tilt angle;
  • deformation;
  • dangerous vibrations;
  • seismic vibrations;
  • air temperature, etc.

Sensors are networked and transmit information in wired and wireless modes. The data is received by operators who analyze and process it both manually and using specialized software.

Scope of tasks to be solved

Monitoring for industrial construction facilities is a range of procedures that faces an impressive set of applied objectives. Specialists achieve the following goals with the help of modern solutions:

  • timely registration of the fact of danger of the building construction;
  • determining the dynamics of gradual destruction of key structures;
  • implementation of correct actions when identifying risks of collapses;
  • establishing stress-strain zones;
  • creating safety guarantees when using facilities;
  • registration of negative changes in the condition of soil foundations.

The concept of ubiquitous safety is the top priority. Software and hardware make it possible to identify any risks and malfunctions, which (if left unattended) will certainly lead to various accidents.

Scope of tasks to be solved
Monitoring for the condition of unique industrial structures

Unique industrial structures are the facilities which height is significantly greater than their transverse dimensions. Such structures are subject to pressure from both vertical and horizontal loads, which is why their conditions have to be controlled with much greater attention.

Buildings of a unique type are divided into two large groups:

  • masts primarily take wind loads;
  • towers suffer mainly from vertical pressure measures.

Unique industrial structures also include pipes divided into classes depending on height, shape, purpose, number of branches, etc.

Surveillance over hazardous production facilities

Numerous hazardous production facilities operate in various cities and regions of Russia. The main characteristic of such facilities is the increased risk of various accidents. Employees of such locations have to interact with reagents, environments prone to detonation, stationary lifting equipment and other unreliable things.

Ensuring the due degree of safety of structures for relevant industries is achieved by:

  • an extremely attentive, responsible and careful approach to the implementation of design tasks;
  • one-hundred-percent compliance with building codes at all stages of building construction;
  • equipping structures with automated monitoring systems ready for continuous operation.

If the presented standards are neglected then the risk of all types of accidents will increase many times over.
